Ben Saul
International anti-terrorism measures existed long before 11 September 2001 but have increased markedly since. A myriad of norms in different branches of law are now deployed to confront transnational and domestic terrorism. There is also a proliferating body of ‘soft law’ addressing terrorism, stemming from United Nations organs, specialised international bodies and regional organisations. It is timely to draw together these diverse legal developments over time into a single reference work. Bringing the original documents together provides for ease of reference and enables scholars, practitioners and students to more easily compare and contrast various sources. The book’s coverage is comprehensive (thematically, rioritizationy, geographically and temporally) and open to a balance of sources (hard and soft), but is judicious in its selection and rioritization of the most significant and representative documents – in a field where there are many repetitive or insubstantial documents. Importantly, the book looks beyond the traditional trans-Atlantic bias towards European, British and American sources in this area to include materials from Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Taken as a whole, the book aids in evidencing the emerging field of international anti-terrorism law.

The International Law of Peace and Security: 4-Volume Set
(Ashgate, 2012)
Edited by Nigel D. White, University of Nottingham, UK
In times of peace the main fear is of sudden attack, with current concern directed to weapons of mass destruction and terrorism. The selected essays consider the applicability of a range of laws such as anti-terrorist laws, arms control laws and measures to prohibit the use of force. In post-conflict situations where peace is usually restored with the involvement of international actors, the articles reveal a whole host of legal issues in connection with the applicability of human rights law within unstable post-conflict states, as well as the principles governing international intervention and involvement. A thread that runs through all the areas addressed in this series is the role, function and importance of the Security Council as principal guarantor and guardian of international peace and security. This four volume series, which focuses on international laws concerning peace and security, presents a selection of important articles on key issues written by leading academics and is an invaluable resource for academics in the field of international law and political science

This book provides an examination and critical review of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC). Asking many pertinent questions about the causes of the crisis and its effects, the book explores fundamental themes such as asset bubbles and speculation in the financial and non-financial markets, systemic risks and the role of regulation and regulators. It also reviews the response of international institutions such as the IMF, the World Bank, the US Federal Reserve, the EU Central Bank and the G20. Comparisons are also drawn with previous financial crises.

Satoyama–Satoumi Ecosystems and Human Well-Being: Socio-Ecological Production Landscapes of Japan
(UNU Press, 2012)
Edited by Anantha Kumar Duraiappah, Koji Nakamura, Kazuhiko Takeuchi, Masataka Watanabe and Maiko Nishi
“This volume brings together an extraordinarily detailed evaluation of what has happened over the past half century to Japanese landscape mosaics, in the foothills and at the seashore, that are rich in physical, biological and cultural attributes and that have been managed as integrated systems in the past and that are now being abandoned. Using the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment conceptual framework, a strong case is made for the positive economic and non-economic values of the maintenance of these systems by new policies at the local as well as the national level.” Harold Mooney, Paul Achilles Professor of Environmental Biology, Stanford University

Exorcising the Demons Within: Xenophobia, Violence and Statecraft in Contemporary South Africa
Edited by Loren B. Landau
(UNU Press, Co-publication with Wits University Press, 2012)
“The authors masterfully show that the politics of statecraft – notably the African National Congress’ (ANC) language of multicultural dominance – inspired a fatal depolitisation of difference. The very coherence of this collection offers a challenging analysis of struggle over belonging and denial of difference that is of much broader relevance than South Africa alone.” Peter Geschiere, Department of African Anthropology, University of Amsterdam
